Shakespear Invented Words..

I came across this site this morning called "No Sweat Shakespear.com" (petiks much?!). A specific article got me interested (and I mean INTERESTED....you'll know in a while *wink), it says that out of 17,677 words he used in ALL his works, 1700 of those were first used by Shakespeare. Some say, when he couldn't think of a word that rhymes he would just invent new words so that the verse wouldn't get messed up. LOL. Anyways, no surprise there he IS the Master Wordsmith after all. But what's cool is that some of those are so widely used nowadays I bet you didn't think it was "invented" by Shakespeare...at least I didn't. Words so common such as "HURRY", "LONELY", "ROAD"...check out some other words below: Mooncake: Babe, did you know that the words "accommodation" and "hurry" where invented by Shakespeare?? actually he coined over a thousand words and is in the English dictionary??? :D

Boyfie: that is so geeky :-P

Mooncake: well, we're both geeks in different ways and language...just happens that mine's Shakespeare and your's
Java....

Ok..I am not that Shakespeare geek (and Java isn't boyfie's 'language'......only--he also knows .PHP, .NET etc, etc ). Sure I know most of his famous works but I don't memorize them or something. Just a little disclaimer back there, oh. and that conversation actually transpired :P

So back to the invented words. Because I am a dork and there's not much work, I decided to validate this myself, so I got my researcher hat on :D

If I think of rrreeeally OLD literature/writtings, my first thought got to be the King James Version Bible. So accessed BibleGateway.com >Keyword Search > King James Version..typed in ALL the words in the list above and then bummed when 3 words matched."AMAZEMENT", "BLOODY" and "ROAD". So I researched on "The King James Version Bible" and it turned out that KJV was written in 1600s and Shakespeare has been writting way back 1585. So I decided to search for an earlier version Bible. Something that's produced, say, 1400 and found the Gutenberg Bible...

isn't it pretty? =^.^=

One problem though..The original book is written in freakin' Latin! Enough with Bibles. I decided to search for fictional literary works, again, in 1400. Surprisingly, I found one that I am quite familiar with... The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer

Familiar, meaning I don't really KNOW them, I'm just possitive I've read some of it back in highschool and it's in MODERN English. Canterbury Tales was originally written in Middle English which is sort of English-Latin mixture....

"The droghte° of Marche hath perced to the rote,° " - excerpt from general prologue

F***! Where the heck's English there? yeah the articles, sure.... Obviously I can't use this material for cross reference. Since I know by now that 1400 use friggin Middle English I decided to move one century up. Early 1500 literature....

Robert Greene had e few years headstart from Shakespeare as he is the first man to make a living out of writing. I chose his Romance work Pandosto. It is in English alright, however the Latin influence is still to "harsh" for me so I gave up on "pre-Shakespeare" writters and look for someone in the same time frame. Enter Edmund Spenser and his masterpiece The Faerie Queene

Although published about the sametime Shakespeare has JUST STARTED making a name of his own. I figured it would be unlikely for him to accept, better yet, use Shakespeare's new words and it turns out I MAY be right since I found not a single word from the list above. And that's enough to convince me that YES the list of words are LEGIT :) Hey! I'm not a historian or something..I'm just a curious dork who had no better thing to do :P

I did learn a thing or 2 here. I have found new appreciation for Shakespeare's work...Between him and Spenser his writting seems to be centuries modern and refined (20th century girl speaking here). And that Language is an ever evolving thing! Like here in the Philippines we over 170 languages. Just a mere 45mins to 1hr flight from Manila and I'll be in a land where people speak dialect different from mine. Not to mention the 'Slang', 'Gay-Lingo' and ...sige na nga 'Jejemon'....

Wouldn't it be cool if I could invent a word myself :)
.
.
.
after a minute or so...
.
.
.
so today I have officially invented the word "ZITFITTY" - it is an occurrence of pimple popping one after another. i.e. "I can't see you now..my face is zitfitty" LAME-OH!!!

from Shakespeare to Pimple...can this post get crappier???

[I can't think of a title yet]

Last week, '3 Filipino drug mules' was finally executed via lethal injection in China. My heart really aches for the family they have left behind. I can just imagine how their families must have felt hearing them say "Mamatay na ko..." actually, NO. I can't. I mean, when my Mom was sick we knew she'll be gone any day, anytime...BUT it was by the hands of God not some man so it really can't compare. I was avoiding this topic before as I feel it is a very sensitive issue as it deals with human life, morals, international relationships, drugs etc. But I will try my best to let my HONEST thoughts out as 'delicate' as I can.

3 words.."Justice Is Served". They did something wrong, they were caught and punished. Period. Harsh?? But I'm not done yet.. It was irritating to see all those signs they held up at MASS saying "SAVE THE OFWs". THOSE 3 WERE NOT OFWs. An OFW (documented or not documented) leaves his home, Philippines, to be EMPLOYED abroad while those 3, when they were busted in China, DID NOT COME FROM THE PHILIPPINES. And it seems like they've been drug couriers for quite sometime now. So I think calling them OFW kind of disgraces the REAL OFWs.

And as for our dear ol' government...well, since the issue was sensationalized, I guess it was OK they tried saving them but I think once is enough. Instead wasting country money flying back and forth to China, here's what should've been done:

1. As I said before, they are guilty, let justice be served. Can't you see what bad image you paint to our government?? Are we a country who tolerates or takes drug issues lightly???

2. The very time they were negotiating and negotiating for these people's lives, a maid somewhere in the world is being locked up for fighting back against her boss who raped her. Why not use our resources to help her and God knows how many more of them instead??

3. And finally.. how many times have I seen in the news a Chinese/Taiwanese national busted for operating drug laboratory somewhere here in the Philippines?? Have we hang any of them??

...so with #3 being said, umm for the Chinese government, aren't you curious where those smuggled drugs originated?? :P

Don't get me wrong, this is not a nationality issue. We all have our bad eggs....

image from Yahoo! News or Google Images...sorry I can't remember...

heart2heart: Japan Japan!

OK. First of all sorry for the lame title. Anyway here in the Philippines when you hear someone say "Japan Japan!" in a jolly tone more or less there's a picture taking going on...posing with peace sign V(^.^)V. So by now, everybody is aware of the 8.9 magnitude and 23meter(?) tsunami tragedy and it has been heart breaking not just for Japanese people but everybody in the world as well.

I'd like to be ALL OUT honest here. I have mixed feelings towards Japan and the Japanese. Hand's down they're the smartest people on earth now. I've always been kinda jealous of they're creativeness and being innovative. I always crave for Japanese food, Japan is on the top of my 'to go' places before I die. They're music used to be lame and a bit funny but now....heck! I love Ajikan!!! and of course the ANIME, ANIME and ANIME!! there's more...point is, yeah Japan gets lots of love from me more than I would like to admit. Why mixed feelings, you say?? err...well... let's just say I know my history and they were NASTY back in WWII (major grudge, yeah) plus I'm not down with incredible amount of "pervi resources" they produce.

But these recent events has given me a new found respect, again, for the Japanese people. Have you seen the news lately?? Did you see how they we're PROPERLY lined for relief? How disciplined! Plus these amazing stories. Like how people not panic buying despite the scarce food supply. Instead of hoarding everything for themselves they make sure they leave something for other people to buy. And when asked "How about tomorrow??" they would answer "tomorrow will have to worry for itself". How selfless. And I remember boyfie telling me a story about a mother of a Japanese soldier at Fukushima, telling him to 'stay and save Japan' instead of telling him to get the hell out of there and avoid radiation. Then there's this buddhist priest I saw in the news. Being married to a Filipino wife he is free to flee to the Philippines with her since the Philippine gov't has been conducting deportations to Filipinos in Japan. But instead of leaving, he chose to stay behind 'because his people needs him'. I saw the video of him in tears as he bids his wife and daughter farewell (*ugh..now I'm in tears...again). Then later the wife, also crying, telling the story of how her husband told her to go and make sure the safety of their child and that as for him... there is no certainty they'll see each other again but he really needs to stay and help out. (*still crying :'<) Stories like these makes me think "No wonder you are one of the most powerful nations","No wonder you're 1st world and we're 3rd..4th or 5th even, if there's such"...because you give so much for your country. Which sadly, I can't say to be true with Filipinos nowadays. If similar tragedy would befall Philippines, you know that story about 'panic buying', I personally can't say I can do the same for my neighbors. It's really hard for me to act all selfless for "the poor" who has wronged me oh-so many times :( If you're working in an office here in the Philippines, prolly 3 or 4yrs ago you may have received this forwarded email...it's an open letter from a Korean to Filipinos. How back in the days, they envy how prosperous we were and that its sad that now we are left waaay far behind and that the reason, accdg to the letter, is that WE FILIPINOS DON'T LOVE THE PHILIPPINES much. There's no proof of the authenticity of this "open letter" but there's no denying the truth of the words:( Do we love the Philippines? Do I love the Philippines??..."OF COURSE"...enough to sign up my son to military service for 2 years?..."i don't know....maybe....not!"...what can I say, it's hard to LOVE a country whose system has offended me one way or another.

Don't get me wrong. I don't hate being a Filipino and I don't wish I was born Korean, Japanese, Western or whatever. I've always been proud to be Filipino and still am. It's my privilege to be born in a country were I am free to practice my faith. I am glad to be born to Filipino parents and raised in a Filipino family. All my friends are Filipinos and they're awesome. I am in love with a Filipino man, everything I am now has to do with me being Filipino and I love 'ME' :P I just wish by some miracle we will be purged of the abusive people of power and people will start to take care of people.

Phew! so wordy! what happened there? I've gone from Japan to Phils to Korea! whatdaheck..totally freestylin' here. Going back to Japan, if you don't know it. They are now facing major threat from radiation leak from their nuclear plant. And now their waters (even in Tokyo) are now contaminated. Whoah! anything but the 'drinking water'!!! as they say "Water Is Life"...just imagine how horrible it is if 'source of life get's contaminated' :( Really, they need our prayers and help. Speaking of helping I come across this site of 'Japan legit donation sites'. As for me, I am still searching for a local donation site (I am really cutting down on my credit card use, you see) so if you know one. Please let me know by commenting below.

English Only Please!

** english-tagalog post

I was browsing some local showbiz news on Yahoo the other night and then out of sheer boredom I stumbled upon and read this issue about Ruffa x Shaina x John Lloyd ....

but thats not what I'll be talking about in this post :P Because I was still wide awake and..ok fine...i guess, nabitin ako dun sa news article..I read all the way thru the comments section and read this.....
WTF?! I'm not posting this to make fun of the author...ok maybe a little.. but the point is, where in the world did she/he/whatever, get the confidence to post this! I mean, those who can't speak Tagalog wouldn't give a flying f*** about this article so WHY NOT JUST COMMENT IN TAGALOG?!

I've always taken pride on how Filipinos can speak English..NOT FLAWLESSLY for the most, but we CAN! I remember when I was in HK, TWICE was I ignored by a local right after hearing me say..."Excuse me....". I bet you that will never happen if you are in the Philippines. Try asking just ANYBODY for directions and you'll get your answer....it may not be the BEST answer but we will talk to you :)

Now let's talk about accent. Last year, korean acctress Lee Da Hae was "inulan ng batikos" for speaking English in Filipino accent on a certain Korean TV show.

WHY?!! I really really hate the fact how Filipinos can be sooo pikon sometimes. I really wonder where the hate came from?? Is it because of the fact that her country generally can't speak English like we do??? And besides WE DO speak that way... Happyslip does it ALL the time and yet, the world loves her...I love her ^_^

Happyslip <3

so yeah...that's my first rant of 2011. In closing, 2 points....

1. Golden Rule (when/when not to speak in English): When you are asked/spoken to in English, talk back in English...you get that this goes the same for Tagalog or your native tounge for the matter, right?!

2. I know my English is not perfect...I don't give a damn :P

2011...Mooncake's Rebirth :P

news flash!!....

I'M ALIVE!!!! bwahahahahaha!!!!

loooooooooooooooong time no post! I'm not gonna come up with the classic 'i've been busy' excuse or something. Honestly, I was just not up to it. 2
010 was mean to me :( or at least most of it. I was THIS close to having a trip of a lifetime (USA), I was robbed (Nokia e71 & iPod 2nd gen, gone huhuhu), then my laptop was in the service center for a good 1 month (almost)...wow, come to think of it, all that happened just October (SCREW YOU, OCTOBER 2010!!!). In case you're curious I'm using Asus UL30 (shout out to my lovely boyfie for gifting this to me). I don't think this model is available here in the Philippines so I'll definitely do a review of this baby one of these days. But for now, I'm back....and let's all look forward to an AWESOME 2011=) Happy New Year, guys!

Living Forever =)

I was at yahoo.com and a story caught my attention alright. Its about this man...

He is Christopher Hitchens, a famous atheist author. According to the yahoo article, he is now stricken with cancer and apparently on his deathbed. I haven't heard about this guy til now and reading about him makes me think 'should I be hateful towards this man??'. I love my God above ALL but honestly, I don't hate this guy at all. Instead, I feel sorry and sad for him. What a lonely life he is living. People may see otherwise, including him, but really...what could be sadder than a man on his deathbed thinking any moment it could be all OVER for him. A friend once asked him "How's your health?" to which he replied "Well, I'm dying, since you asked, but so are you. I'm only doing it more rapidly," =) HAHA!! I liked that one actually =) but sorry to disappoint you Mr. Hitchens, between us 2, you're the only one whose dying. My flesh and bones will expire, alright, but I will definitely live on...FOREVER together with my Lord:)

  • Weight: 3lbs 1oz (with 6-cell battery)

  • so my brother got this last month and I just want to share my own thoughts on this =)

    - With the specs above we could say that for a NETBOOK it is BADASS =)
    - However it's also too big and heavy for a netbook as well.
    - There are also only 2 colors to choose from which are white and gray. Here in the Philippines we only have the gray one.

ok, so the last 2 items may make you think that this baby isn't very good. Well, I say that just makes it perfect..specially for my brother. It's size just makes it perfect for gaming because as it's specs says, you could actually play games with this (games with graphics like DOTA). And the look is just right for big boys ;) Plus its CHEAP too..a little under 20k php ($442). So if your high school or college brother tells you he needs laptop or netbook for school, blah blah blah.. get him this one!

    Box Contents:
    • netbook
    • charger
    • driver
    • sleeve...a very ugly one

    I also saw SALT today....

Frankly one word kept ringing in my head the whole time I was watching.... ALIAS. But I still like it though :) 100% action packed and no one would do justice for this role aside from Angelina Jolie :)

    **
My boyfie finally came back home after 7months of working in the States and he got me some pretty cool stuff. I was thinking of blogging about them, hehe. Would you like to see what he got me??? ;)

this video is not available in your country....

    **Please click pictures to enlarge

You know when this happens???.....sucks right??. You ever CRAVED for FURTHER EXPLANATION regarding this matter??? NO?!? Well, I did...

....because I'm a geek. So here's the first search result my dear old friend, Google, returned...

    lmao!!!! =))

**warning: little geek talk ahead...feel free to stop reading from here :D**

ok so about the Youtube prompt. Well, obviously the owners of the video has set it in specific countries or region for various reasons, so if your IP address falls outside those countries you will get the "not available in your country" error. Now, I won't be discussing about IP address here but as the name suggests, it's something that identifies a network location. You could read more about IP Address at my other friend Wiki.

I have a way to bypass this however I don't know a Youtube video that may be blocked for the same reason right now. And its pretty late for a guessing game so I can't show it to you right now....some other day perhaps;)

    Heart2Heart ep1: Hatin' via Net ;)

Ever realized how technology, specifically the internet made it so easy for us to throw in a hurtful word towards another? I for instance am guilty of this..and I know for sure that all of us are. If you have no idea what I'm talking about then you're one big HYPOCRITE! so let me give you a clue... STATUS MESSAGES. Take this...ok MINE for example.

Don't get me wrong..I'm not trying to be a Saint here or something. Truth is, I don't condone this. Why should I? Free vent out! When you're pissed at someone the best thing to do is to let it off your chest. But a confrontation would be cumbersome, so we resort to "Status Messages". May it be on YM, Facebook, Twitter, etc...don't give out a name or the obvious and voila! Instant remedy:D But have you ever thought of the effects on us personally if we get used to this?? We end up not resolving anything. Sure we could let it pass sooner or later but the impression you have made towards that person will be there forever. I never confronted the guy in my stat and probably never will. I don't hate him. I would forget him if I didn't see him in 5yrs but it IS a small world. If I see him by chance. I would immediately think "oh, that was the guy who irritated me so much.....5yrs ago."

    Riding The Dolly Wagon =^.-=

Hi everyone=) Here's a pic of my "Everyday Dolly Look". As you know, Dolly Look has been taking Asia (and West recently) by storm. Girls...and some boys too =P has been sporting the Dolly Look as their EVERYDAY look :) For those of you who don't know..Dolly Look are all about, circle lenses, heavy eyemakeup, fluttery false eyelashes, curly hair...hence the DOLLy look :D

Actually when I bought my Circle lens, I never really intended to wear a Dolly Look. There's no way I could pull that off since I'm not that skilled with make up. However, as soon as I tried my circle lens on, IT LOOKED CREEPY!!!

kinda reminds me of Sadako o.0

I saw right away that the circle lens can't do alone without eye makeup. So just not to waste my purchase, I still tried it out with the little make up skills that I have, and here's the result :)

What do you think?? :D circle lens, slightly thicker eyeliner and mascara than usual, some shimmer and that's it :D Dolly look but not too much that you can actually wear at work or school :D Hope you like it :D

    Mooncake @ Work =^.-=

Holla! I just started the 6 days training on MS SSAS and MS SSRS yesterday as requirement for the project I will be involved with soon so this is not really "at work", "part of work" would be more appropriate, hehe:) So far so good, I'm surprisingly learning a lot. I was nervous before I started because, honestly, I've been rusty on the "technical dept" lately so I'm worried I won't be able to cope up. I just hope things will go well for the remaining 4 days:D

But the best parts about this training are:

    1. it's FREE!! or company sponsored rather. Of course, they'll bond me for 6 months or something but that's not too bad considering there is NO way I could afford this training myself:D
    2. classes ends at 4pm :D...and finally.....
    3. FREE MEALS!!!! that's free breakfast, lunch and merienda (afternoon snack)! hehe :D

Here's some pic of the training room I took with my Nokia E71 phone yesterday, just before the class started.

see me in all my nerdyness HAHA!

view from the window...and pls don't ask why the room is so dark :P

    CRT..hyuck! :P

I'll spare you from the boredom by not telling you the details of the training...so I'll just show you this lovely hair piece I wore=)

I'll take a better pic of this for your better appreciation:P

    **Quick Detour**

Last night I was at the wake of a friend's mom. I saw some of my friends from college it's just sad that our little "reunion" has to be in that event. But the nice thing about last night was when my friend and I talked about our experiences and pain of loosing a mom. I believe that by doing that we are able to impart a lesson to our friends which is to love and cherish each time they have with their moms before it's too late.

Today on the Tube: Paranormal Activity 2

This made me poop my pants a little..................

kidding! actually I have quite high standards for horror movies. Growing up, my mom wouldn't let us watch horror movies so college (yes, not even highschool) was freedom. I started hardcore...Ringu (still the best for me). Good scare became so addictive that I watched every Asian horror flick (western, and even Flip horror just sucks!..specially during those days) until I became used to it.

So talk about the Paranormal Activity. Did you see the first installment?? I didn't like it. There is one good scene--the one where the girl got dragged by the foot-- and that's it! the rest..B-O-R-I-N-G! oh! there's this another scene where they find the girl's picture when she was little at the attic, I liked that one too. It's not scary but I think it's powerful..i don't know.

So here comes the 2nd installment, just merely a year after the release of the first one. Really good trailer..AYLAVET! But then again, Paranormal Activity 1 had good trailer too.

    I think I'll give this movie a shot..hehe.....

....i'm sorry, what was that??? what Eclipse???

    New Pres New Start???

So today was a very important day for the Philippines as the new President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III was inaugurated. Well..I did not vote for this guy but I don't want to be a sourpuss as of the moment. For a change, I want to be positive this time like the rest of the Filipino people who believe he really can change our long time corrupted and abused nation. The speech was very good actually but I'm not in the mood to IMO on some points that somehow made impact to me. So..there, this is actually a very short post. I would just like to ask everyone to pray for the new administration and may God bless the Philippines:)

Here's a short vid of what transpired this morning of his inauguration.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.- 2 Chronicles 7:14

Beach Hut: Hair and Scalp Sunblock

What is it?: Spray on sunblock for your hair and scalp with SPF20

    Strength:
    • smells AWESOME
    • the texture of the liquid is kind of oily but its really dry when sprayed on hair

    Weakness:

    • Pricey. Around 500+php ($11)
    • No other size available

I'm sorry I can't tell you wether this thing actually works or not as I didn't have the chance to test it out (if you've been reading this blog, you know that my summer was a major BLAH!)

Packaging: It's alright. Clear plastic bottle so you could easily see how much product left. The green and orange Beach Hut color theme spells S-U-M-M-E-R =^.^=

Repurchase: I don't think so. Just like my previous summers, I could use a regular leave on instead. It's waaaaaaayyy cheaper :D

So why did I buy this then??? Because of the darn free underwater camera. (one where you put film in it)

    ... I am such a freebiewhore.......

    Michael Jordan High Heels?!!WTF?!!

have you heard of these?? What are they are Air Jordan patterned shoe with HEELS for soles. Here's what it looks like

I don't like it. i think it's over the top...and kind of gay too:P because that is Michael Freakin' Jordan's shoes and we don't mess with the Royal Airness shoes! HAHA! I remember there was a time that I wanted to have those canvass shoes with heels and I still think they're cute but this one..i don't know............

I mean, if I want to be girly in sneakers..I'll just wear my current fave

Nike Sister One sneakers:) it's a cross training shoes in dark gray and HOT PINK....super pretty AYLAVET!

so going back to the Jordan heels..another thing I don't like about this is the fact that I'm not sure how and where to wear it. Right now my life rotates on home, office, church and the mall.

I'll probably get this shoes when I become the 5th member of 2NE1 or something...ahihihi

What do you think of Air Jordan High Heels?? Fab or Fug???

    WWE Fatal 4 Way BLAH!

Disclaimer: If you're gonna bash on me "OMG, that's not real...that is so stooooppid" please skip this post. I love watching WWE just as I love watching my House and CSI series. so please don't go hatin' now, aryt?!

Eversince my cable rechanneled JackTV from 32 (i think) to 81..you know, in between those chinese and Indian channels, I've missed out a lot of happenings with our all time fave sportstertainment WWE. So when a friend texted me last night that the Fatal 4 Way special last Monday was being replayed, I got so excited but to my dismay...it was a Fatal 4 Way FAIL!! major snoozefest...it's like a party for all WWE C-Lister superstars. Not very good Mr. Bret Hart, if you're gonna show more 'specials' like this...please bring back Vince McMahon.

The only thing I liked here was Rey Mysterio winning the World Heavyweight Championship YAHA!!
