Phew! I'm on the roll these past few weeks. I originally planned dividing this to 2 post but I guess shorter reviews are always better, don't you think? ;-) Ooh, and guess what? I even arranged it from my most liked to least....wala lang :P

Limitless

Director: Neil Burger
Starring: Bradley Cooper
Rating: 5 stars

Actually, this is the ONLY movie that I liked :) It's been a while since I personally ranked a movie "5"....Ok, short review...short review... Very clever movie but it's nothing heavy like those usual mind f*ck movies that we like :) This definitely puts Bradley C to A-List. He really came a long way from being Jennifer Garner's casual beau in Alias. Highly recommended. Definitely a 'must see'







Battle: Los Angeles

Director: Jonathan Liebesman
Starring: Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez and Bridget Moynahan
Rating: 3 stars

This has been dubbed as 'Cloverleaf part 2' and has received quite bad reviews. I haven't seen Cloverleaf but I do know that it took on the "real life camera" style ala Blairwitch Project...circa '99. So that itself say's lack of originality or maybe they're just covering their poor production design by shaking the camera much HAHAHA!! It's #2 here, just because I always like "underdogs-exceptional comradery" type of movies :P And also because Michelle R's badass here as usual. Btw, NeYo's in the movie too:P




Red Riding Hood

In terms of whether how much I liked or DISLIKED it, should be tied with Sucker Punch with '2 stars' rating but I decided to give it a 3 since I didn't figure out who was the wolf by the middle of the film (I usually get the bad guy correct within the few minutes of the film). Plus I'm seeing this "dark version" kind of film is such a trend now (Robin Hood and I heard they're doing Snow White soon). Some hate it but I think it's OK :) Not much acting for Amanda S. but she's pretty hawt so that's OK, I guess....





Sucker Punch

Starring: Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung

It's Inception teenybopper edition!! LOL. I do not want to explain why because that would be spoiler and I'm lazy. I researched whether this was a comic or a video game originally because it sure seems like trying hard to achieve that effect. LOL. Right now I'll be spilling shiz randomly...sorry if you can't follow. First I am really bothered by Baby Doll's heavy eye makeup. I mean, it's OK in the 'Fantasy World' but smokey eyes with dramatic lashes while at home?? Why is Vanessa Hudgen's name Blondie when she's a brunette?? I am kinda bothered how the girls were portrayed because they look pretty young to me....except for Sweet Pea...almost didn't recognize her in Limitless. But then again maybe it's just me because I'm pretty sure most of them are child actors that I may have seen in Disney or Nick before. Amber got the only normal name and Rocket got the coolest normal name :D


The Green Hornet

Just 1 star because I had high expectations for this flick and it turned out to be a big disappointment :( No chemistry between the lead actors. I know Seth R's funny so I'm wondering why he isn't in this film. And who the heck is Jay Chou?! This was played by Bruce Lee before...I mean I'm sure there are more famous Asian star out there. So I did a little research and found that this Jay Chou was the dude in Initial D live action..WHA?? What happened?!? He was cute there......

I am Number Four

I am Number Four

I hate 'Heroes', 'Supernatural','Smallville' and all those "superhuman-teen" themed shows but to my surprise I kinda liked this one. The movie is based on the book of the same title (I haven't read it so please bear in mind that this review will be from a point of view of someone who haven't read the book). Basically, it is a story of 9 powerful alien kids living on earth, hunted down by the alien villains IN ORDER of their numbers. The movie starts with the murder of Number 3 which begins the chase for Number 4.

Casting's pretty good. Although Diana Agron's acting sucks!

You might know her as the pretty cheerleader from the show Glee--which I also don't watch. Girl has one facial expression all thru out the movie, geez..better stick to musicals.

Mr. 4's power is kinda gay don't you think?? Glowing hands and moving objects with mind. I am thinking of characters with telekinesis now and all I can think of were Jean Grey, Carrie and Matilda...all GIRLS! (well except for Professor X, but the guy can't walk so there really isn't any mutant power more suitable for him).



Number 6's cool though! Fire proof, teleportation and a total badass chic! I like her ^_^


But my favorite would be the guardian dog. You have cuteness when its safe and a beast protector when you're in danger! How convenient is that?!

Overall, I am Number Four is not as "WOW" but definitely didn't suck as well... in fact, I am very much looking forward to the sequel/s :)

AWESOME RANDOM WEEKEND!!!

It is an awesome weekend in sports in deed, head started with, what else, the NBA yesterday kicking off the All Star Weekend ...
...with Roockies vs. Sophomore, as usual. TODAY, are the 'fun' parts...the 3point shoot out (boohoo! Rey Allen lost :-( ), the celebrity game (man, I thought Pacquiao's playing...that'd be WICKED!!), and my personal favorite, the SLAMDUNK competition. I like it that they give points for presentation now, because c'mon...there's a limit to what human body can do so every year there's always a chance seeing old tricks reenacted. Anyways, see the highlights here.

Next is boxing and its Mexico vs. Philippines again brought to us by Fernando Montiel vs. Nonito 'the Filipino Flash' Donaire.


Of course WE won!! Yey!! 2 rounds, baby!! 'Pacquiao vs. Hatton' style. Trust me, you GOT to see this.

Then I also just saw Walt Disney's Tangled

and it was GREAT! I love it!!! It's nice to see Disney going back to the 'Princess League' then giving it a twist (The Princess and the Frog sucked though). Really there's nothing bad to say about this film. It's hilarious and sweet. Perfect movie date for the family or ANYBODY. I super enjoyed every moment of it. Highly recommended.

Pop Princess Britney Spears FINALLY released the video for 'Hold It Against Me' which is not so awesome given the hype sorrounding it, you know.. teaserS and all. Similar to Lady Gaga's Born This Way, too much hype but nothing compared to her previous music...smart lyrics though, but that's nothing new to Gaga ("don't be a drag just be a queen" ^_^) :) so back to Britney's 'HIAM' video...WTF with all the adverts?!? her perfume, Make Up Forever, Sony....

The Tourist, Rosario, Black Swan, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

@ home...on Sick Leave today and what a better way to past time than to post something, right?? :) So, here are films I saw recently..



The Tourist

Director: Florian Henckel
Starring: Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie
Rating: 5 stars

"Babe, I know there's a film out now that you would very much like to watch.." That's how boyfie asked me on a movie date to watch this and that is because I LOVE both these actors....specially Mr. Depp :) Good thing the film didn't disappoint me :) You know how those films TRY to "leave you out guessing" but by the time you get to the mid part you already know how it's gonna end??? well, this is NOT how it is with The Tourist. There's always the "Wat da???" moments all thru the end of the film. I did guess the crucial part...but I got the details wrong...Read on if you want to know, what I'm talking about..

I knew, like mid part of the film, that Frank and Alexander are one person. Why??? because JD is a SUPERSTAR and wouldn't be given such a secondary role, HAHA! My guess was that he is a schizo and lives an alter ego life. Probably because Elise describes Alexander to Frank as "different"...and of course we always love "psycho-twist" to a seemingly normal movie :) you don't??? well, I do:P plus, PLASTIC SURGERY?!? oh c'mon.....



Rosario

Director: Abert Martinez
Starring: Jennelyn Mercado

Rating: 1 star

SERIOUSLY?!? Some dimwits want this to be 'Best Picture' in the recent MMFF?!? The trailers didn't really say what the story is about except that it is a true to life story of Manny Pangilinan's grandmother, PERFECT! because I always love listening to the elderly. Stories of old, the war, anything about the time I wasn't born yet. But this film turned out to be an EPIC FAIL!! The only film that made me want to walk out by the first 40mins. Really.....Not inspiring at all. Why? Read on....

To sum it up the film is a story of a Slutty Chain Smoker who lived in the Philippines during the 20's. She lived and died a tough life because of the wrong choices she made like abandoning her parents and f*cking her cousin's man inside her home while her husband and children are there.

On the good note though, I loved the production design. Probably the best in the Philippines, on movies of the same plot of course. Cinematography's excellent too and in all fairness, Jennelyn gave a superb acting performance. I guess, her charecter is such a bad example that the MMFF board did not include her to the "Best Actress" nominees:P



Black Swan

Director: Darren Aronofsky
Starring: Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis

Rating: 5 stars

Dark and sort of classy. Just the way I like it:) When I saw the trailer I thought it's gonna be one cool horror flick but it's not..I don't know where to classify it, actually. Psycho-thriller, I guess and again my cup of tea :-> I don't have anything bad to say about this film and I don't want to spoil it since it's even not shown here yet in Manila. Great film. Natalie's excellent as usual, Mila's HAWT! first time I saw her on Aerosmith's 'Jaded' I know she'll be someone someday and I do hope this film will launch for to Hollywood A-lists :) Oh, and there's also 'treat' for all you pervies out there..hehe :P






The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish)

Starring: Noomi Repace and Michael Nyckvist
Rating: 5 stars

You know I love the book so it's such a treat to love the movie also:) I know hollywood is making a version of this so I'm glad a friend gave me a copy of this film because I don't think this was released internationally. I like how the film was able to stay true to the book editting out some parts that doesn't have real relevance to the story. If you have read my review on the book, you know there are LOTS of those. Like old folks having s*x, Mikael's flings...etc. But what struck me most was Noomi Repace's performance. She was able to play Lisbeth very well. I remember my friend telling me how she was struck by her acting also, specially her eyes and the book (specially the 2nd and 3rd) described Lisbeth's eyes "deep" and "dark" number of times. I know in Sweden, they have shown the movie for the 2nd and 3rd book also. I just hope I'll be able to finish reading them before obtaining a copy of those films. I am 90% done with the last book before it was stolen from me along with my bag last October 2010:(

so my brother got this last month and I just want to share my own thoughts on this =)


- With the specs above we could say that for a NETBOOK it is BADASS =)
- However it's also too big and heavy for a netbook as well.
- There are also only 2 colors to choose from which are white and gray. Here in the Philippines we only have the gray one.

ok, so the last 2 items may make you think that this baby isn't very good. Well, I say that just makes it perfect..specially for my brother. It's size just makes it perfect for gaming because as it's specs says, you could actually play games with this (games with graphics like DOTA). And the look is just right for big boys ;) Plus its CHEAP too..a little under 20k php ($442). So if your high school or college brother tells you he needs laptop or netbook for school, blah blah blah.. get him this one!

Inception

So am I or am I not the only person here who watched this just recently?? :D Mine's so recent I just saw this yesterday...LAST FULL SHOW haha!! But that's fine, since everybody has seen this already there's no need for me to go in details and go straight the IMO instead, hehe ;)

Brilliant film. I'm a sucker for films that f*cks my mind :) No surprise there, it's a Christopher Nolan film after all. I'm not a Leo de Caprio fan but I got to say, he was amazing. Ellen Page was lifeless as usual and that Arthur guy...didn't he star on those dorky films from years back?? whatever, he's so in the right track right now, better keep it up :) At first, I never really thought I'd like it because I thought it's gonna be MATRIX, but after watching the verdict was Inception, for me, is more powerful. Why? because we all have subconscious minds and we all dream while 'Matrix' isn't here yet. So what do you think?? how do you know this isn't just a dream?? ;)

And earlier yesterday, I also watched the Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz's rematch. Err...nothing exciting there :P JMM is definitely one of my fave boxers because he's really intelligent and technical but yesterday, there wasn't much BOOM from El Dinamita, I guess age and drinking his own peepee has caught up on him, hehe :P

this movie delivered! its fun, its funny, its unique, 100% coolness!! strictly R-13 though. You wouldn't want to give kids the wrong idea thats its OK for little girls to go mudah-effin while blowin some guy's brains out. And its also not nice for kids to see a grown man beating up kids:P Even our very own 'balisong' was specially mentioned and made appearance..how cool is that?!! Highly recommended movie!! Go see KICK-ASS now!
