Shakespear Invented Words..

I came across this site this morning called "No Sweat Shakespear.com" (petiks much?!). A specific article got me interested (and I mean INTERESTED....you'll know in a while *wink), it says that out of 17,677 words he used in ALL his works, 1700 of those were first used by Shakespeare. Some say, when he couldn't think of a word that rhymes he would just invent new words so that the verse wouldn't get messed up. LOL. Anyways, no surprise there he IS the Master Wordsmith after all. But what's cool is that some of those are so widely used nowadays I bet you didn't think it was "invented" by Shakespeare...at least I didn't. Words so common such as "HURRY", "LONELY", "ROAD"...check out some other words below: Mooncake: Babe, did you know that the words "accommodation" and "hurry" where invented by Shakespeare?? actually he coined over a thousand words and is in the English dictionary??? :D

Boyfie: that is so geeky :-P

Mooncake: well, we're both geeks in different ways and language...just happens that mine's Shakespeare and your's
Java....

Ok..I am not that Shakespeare geek (and Java isn't boyfie's 'language'......only--he also knows .PHP, .NET etc, etc ). Sure I know most of his famous works but I don't memorize them or something. Just a little disclaimer back there, oh. and that conversation actually transpired :P

So back to the invented words. Because I am a dork and there's not much work, I decided to validate this myself, so I got my researcher hat on :D

If I think of rrreeeally OLD literature/writtings, my first thought got to be the King James Version Bible. So accessed BibleGateway.com >Keyword Search > King James Version..typed in ALL the words in the list above and then bummed when 3 words matched."AMAZEMENT", "BLOODY" and "ROAD". So I researched on "The King James Version Bible" and it turned out that KJV was written in 1600s and Shakespeare has been writting way back 1585. So I decided to search for an earlier version Bible. Something that's produced, say, 1400 and found the Gutenberg Bible...

isn't it pretty? =^.^=

One problem though..The original book is written in freakin' Latin! Enough with Bibles. I decided to search for fictional literary works, again, in 1400. Surprisingly, I found one that I am quite familiar with... The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer

Familiar, meaning I don't really KNOW them, I'm just possitive I've read some of it back in highschool and it's in MODERN English. Canterbury Tales was originally written in Middle English which is sort of English-Latin mixture....

"The droghte° of Marche hath perced to the rote,° " - excerpt from general prologue

F***! Where the heck's English there? yeah the articles, sure.... Obviously I can't use this material for cross reference. Since I know by now that 1400 use friggin Middle English I decided to move one century up. Early 1500 literature....

Robert Greene had e few years headstart from Shakespeare as he is the first man to make a living out of writing. I chose his Romance work Pandosto. It is in English alright, however the Latin influence is still to "harsh" for me so I gave up on "pre-Shakespeare" writters and look for someone in the same time frame. Enter Edmund Spenser and his masterpiece The Faerie Queene

Although published about the sametime Shakespeare has JUST STARTED making a name of his own. I figured it would be unlikely for him to accept, better yet, use Shakespeare's new words and it turns out I MAY be right since I found not a single word from the list above. And that's enough to convince me that YES the list of words are LEGIT :) Hey! I'm not a historian or something..I'm just a curious dork who had no better thing to do :P

I did learn a thing or 2 here. I have found new appreciation for Shakespeare's work...Between him and Spenser his writting seems to be centuries modern and refined (20th century girl speaking here). And that Language is an ever evolving thing! Like here in the Philippines we over 170 languages. Just a mere 45mins to 1hr flight from Manila and I'll be in a land where people speak dialect different from mine. Not to mention the 'Slang', 'Gay-Lingo' and ...sige na nga 'Jejemon'....

Wouldn't it be cool if I could invent a word myself :)
.
.
.
after a minute or so...
.
.
.
so today I have officially invented the word "ZITFITTY" - it is an occurrence of pimple popping one after another. i.e. "I can't see you now..my face is zitfitty" LAME-OH!!!

from Shakespeare to Pimple...can this post get crappier???

Today on the Tube: Paranormal Activity 2

This made me poop my pants a little..................

kidding! actually I have quite high standards for horror movies. Growing up, my mom wouldn't let us watch horror movies so college (yes, not even highschool) was freedom. I started hardcore...Ringu (still the best for me). Good scare became so addictive that I watched every Asian horror flick (western, and even Flip horror just sucks!..specially during those days) until I became used to it.

So talk about the Paranormal Activity. Did you see the first installment?? I didn't like it. There is one good scene--the one where the girl got dragged by the foot-- and that's it! the rest..B-O-R-I-N-G! oh! there's this another scene where they find the girl's picture when she was little at the attic, I liked that one too. It's not scary but I think it's powerful..i don't know.

So here comes the 2nd installment, just merely a year after the release of the first one. Really good trailer..AYLAVET! But then again, Paranormal Activity 1 had good trailer too.

I think I'll give this movie a shot..hehe.....

....i'm sorry, what was that??? what Eclipse???

  • Pricey. Around 500+php ($11)

I'm sorry I can't tell you wether this thing actually works or not as I didn't have the chance to test it out (if you've been reading this blog, you know that my summer was a major BLAH!)

Michael Jordan High Heels?!!WTF?!!

I don't like it. i think it's over the top...and kind of gay too:P because that is Michael Freakin' Jordan's shoes and we don't mess with the Royal Airness shoes! HAHA! I remember there was a time that I wanted to have those canvass shoes with heels and I still think they're cute but this one..i don't know............

I mean, if I want to be girly in sneakers..I'll just wear my current fave

Nike Sister One sneakers:) it's a cross training shoes in dark gray and HOT PINK....super pretty AYLAVET!

so going back to the Jordan heels..another thing I don't like about this is the fact that I'm not sure how and where to wear it. Right now my life rotates on home, office, church and the mall.

I'll probably get this shoes when I become the 5th member of 2NE1 or something...ahihihi

What do you think of Air Jordan High Heels?? Fab or Fug???

Lakers..NBA 2010 Champs

....and of course I'm not happy. Darn! I'm upset! If you've been reading this blog for a while, YOU know that I'm a HUGE Celtics fan. But that was one hell of a game though :D Gosh! I'm so jealous of the people, specially those in ringside at Staples. The game was worth every freakin' penny! It's one of my long time wish/dream...be able to watch live matches of my fave NBA teams and players:P
OK so back to the game. To sum it up, Celtics had a good start until the big shot from Fisher and just like a disease..the whole Lakers team got all fired up and started connecting. Then the Celtics begin to mess up. So here are some post game analysis based not only on my opinion but also from all the 'office jocks' "analysis" as well:)

  1. Perkins not playing
  2. They missed a lot of open shots
  3. Lot of Celtics guys got into Foul Trouble
  4. Homecourt advantage
  5. Phil Jackson.
  6. Kobe Bryant.
Oh Gosh...I just remembered back in highschool when I was such a Kobe fanatic. Back then, I know almost everything about him. His birthday, the 'Kobe' name, he went with Brandy to the prom...etc. And....should I say it??...ah what the heck!...I collect Kobe Bryant clippings! HAHAHA! cut outs from magazines, newspapers.

Anyways..I could go on with this forever so before that happens..here's some game highlights:

Did you watch the game?? Whose team were you on?? Lakers or Celtics??

Summer Picks ep 2: Evian -- not the drinking water :P

Mooncake's Summer Pick #2: Evian Facial Spray

Probably my fave amongst my summer essentials specially when I don't bring my car to work and I get all sweaty (Flip summer is REALLY hot). I just spritz on my Evian face mist and VOILA!! instant freshness ^_^. "That's ridiculous..plain water should do the trick"...NO. Water alone will dry your skin. Evian Facial Spray has moisturizing agents so it wont dry your skin even when used constantly.

Strength:
  • Refreshes skin while keeping it hydrated as well
  • They have 50ml travel sized bottle..or can rather :p
  • can be used to set make up
Weakness:
  • Bit pricey. 50ml costs 199php ($4)
Packaging: Actually, for me, this IS the strength of this product. The atomizer/spritzer is perfect :) plus, since its in can, that helps make the liquid cool:) It also has a cover so that makes it very hyigenic as well. Where did mine go??..errr..The day I bought this, at the MRT station I got to excited to try it out and..yes you guessed it..I dropped the cover at the train track :-< of course I'm not allowed to go down and get it..I did try asking the guard to get it for me though but I think the train blew it away since its very lite. Yeah..I'm clumsy and stupid :P Anyways, in case you're wondering, here's how it looks like.

Tip: put this in the fridge to make it even more cooler:) Actually you could DIY this. Just mix a little amount of essential oil to distilled water and put it in a spray bottle that you could buy anywhere..much better, you could reuse the ones from your used up cologne. Anyways I just read that somewhere, I'm not in to essential oils so I don't think I could try this one out ;)

Featured Product: Lush Vanishing Act

This is the Vanishing Act from Lush. Its a Tea Tree gel that is supposed to give you clearer skin by applying it on your spots and areas of your face where its usually oily. So basically, what it does is it mattifies your skin.

My Take: well i do have other products that does that and I prefer using over this. However, I just LOVE using this when I break out:) I just apply it on the pimple and it works AMAZING, cause, i don't know about you but when I break out its not that many. Usually, its just 1 or 2 that's really big and red. Before I started using this, I usually see the dermatologist and have my zit injected with anti-bacterial solution that will help it dry faster. With this product, i don't have to go thru that anymore, because I noticed that Vanishing Act really helps dry the pimple faster, drastically lessening redness and -- my favorite part -- minimizes the pimple mark left once it healed.

Downside: First of all, the pump. Since I just use it on a zit, the product that comes out from a single pump is too much so I always end up wasting half of it. Another reason I don't apply it to other parts of my face is because of the smell..its kind of bad.

here's how much product comes out from a single pump.

Repurchase?: yes

Generally, its a great product. I have nothing to say about the packaging...nothing different from their trademark black packaging. It also has the Manufacture and Best Before dates which is very good.. didn't take a picture though, camera seems to be out of focus.

BTW. I think its called differently in other countries. I saw from a Bubsbeauty Post that its called Grease Lightning. Lush Vanishing Act in the Philippines costs Php495 ($10).

Before I end this post, could someone tell me what happened to my YM??

Was chatting with the boyfie a couple of nights ago then suddenly I was seeing myself in my view of his webcam....weird...

Unii Palettes

First time I saw these at From Head to Toe I can't stop thinking how cute and pretty they are :).... and that there is NO way I'm getting these palettes. 2 reasons...

1. Each palette costs around $30. With the value of PHP now, this would probably cost me 1400PHP....that's EXPENSIVE!!!

2. Secondly, and the ultimate reason, is because...... I DON'T HAVE THAT MUCH MAKE-UP!!! specially eye shadows. :P

so there...I know I am such a sucker for cute packaging and cases but this one I definitely have to pass:)

.... forget the pretty palettes.....move on or...

....i could always play with my dear old Nintendo DS..they kinda look the same anyways :P
